Just to clear things out, then i can tell all of you that this was not any kind of spam! The message i tried to show so many as possible is important for our community. But instead of reading my mail on a open forum i can paste it here.

Hello Mr Smith,

I have heard lot’s of rumor on the internet about Kathrein UFS 910. The scary part is that if people is using alternative software, Kathrein will and have the possibility to change the processor over the satellite, and that change will make it impossible to use their own firmware of choice.
I have seen the documentation of the processor (over 1000 pages), and there is this possibility.

One other not so much rumor, but more fact is that kathrein have used the software in the box under the license of GPL, but not fulfilled the agreement of that license to release the sourcecode.

So my point is.
Will and have Katherin any intension in the future to use the facility to destroy the boxes so the customer can’t use their own home made software in the Kathrein UFS 910?
Also will Kathrein release the sourscode for the UFS 910, under the GPL license?

This is weary important questions, and this kind of rumor can destroy all kind of sales in the future……

Answer from Kathrein!

Hello,
I have sent a full answer to Mats at xxxxx for you.
The rumours are in any case complete rubbish. Any company using Linux has to
publish the codes after a given time limit. The UFS 910 is very new, so maybe that limit
has not been reached yet.
Mats will send you information on how to get the source codes from our service company ESC.
These will be released automatically when the time limit in question is up. Codes for other of our
receivers which are Linux-based can already be picked up from our service company. (UFS 821..)
